Speaking to the media, Dobrindt emphasized that while Germany is not at war, it is increasingly targeted daily by hybrid warfare tactics aimed at undermining political stability and public confidence.
"We are not at war, but we become a target of hybrid warfare every day," Dobrindt stated, highlighting the strategic intent behind foreign interference.
These operations encompass espionage, sabotage, cyberattacks, and covert actions designed to destabilize Germany and fuel societal fears. Following the discovery of an explosive-laden drone near a Ukrainian Antonov An-124 aircraft on August 5, airport authorities implemented immediate operational restrictions. A detection system known as EchoShield—a radar capable of identifying approaching drones at long range—has been installed on the viewing platform of the airport's old control tower to enhance real-time monitoring.
The incident also involved a secondary unidentified object that collided with a departing aircraft attempting to resume flight after the initial disruption, underscoring the complexity and danger of such threats.
