Organized near the Freedom Arch in central Kyiv, formerly known as the People's Friendship Arch until May 2022, protesters marched through major city arteries including Khreshchatyk Street, the Alley of the Heavenly Hundred Heroes, and Olhynska Street, culminating in a rally at Ivan Franko Square near the Presidential Office.
The demonstrators, predominantly youth alongside diverse age groups, voiced strong opposition not only to the recent removal of Fedorov but also to President Volodymyr Zelensky's recent executive staffing decisions. Key points of contention include the appointment of former Defense Minister Rustem Umerov as head of the Foreign Intelligence Service, and Vitalii Kim, the ex-head of Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration, as Minister for Veterans Affairs.
"Fedorov!", "Umerov - devil!", "Veterans, not Kim!", and "Do not interfere with Misha's military niche" were among the slogans chanted, reflecting public dissent over the government's current strategic personnel placements.
These protests are not isolated to Kyiv; simultaneous demonstrations were reported in Lviv, Dnipro, Lutsk, Rivne, Poltava, Odesa, Vinnytsia, Khmelnytskyi, and Chernivtsi, signaling broad national concern over defense policy and governance.
Organizers delivered a petition to the Presidential Administration demanding continuation of reforms initiated under Fedorov's leadership and urging the government to engage in transparent dialogue with civil society. Veteran activist Dmytro Koziatynskyi highlighted unresolved gaps in governmental appointments, notably the vacant positions of defense and foreign ministers, underscoring ongoing instability in Ukraine's strategic command.
