Ozon, one of Russia's leading e-commerce platforms, is facing a significant operational challenge after drone attacks targeted its logistics centers in Krasnodar and Nevinnomyssk, prompting emergency responses and halting warehouse activities.

Operational Impact and Emergency Response

On August 24, a drone attack severely impacted Ozon's Krasnodar logistics center, igniting a large fire and forcing the evacuation of all employees. Emergency services are actively working to contain the blaze, and preliminary reports indicate no casualties among the warehouse staff. However, the incident has caused a suspension of all warehouse operations at this location, affecting the acceptance and fulfillment of orders. Goods stored at this center are temporarily unavailable for online orders, and delivery routes to the warehouse have been canceled. Alternative facilities are being mobilized to mitigate disruption to Ozon's supply chain and customer service.

Local authorities reported that fragments of the downed drone scattered across several addresses in Krasnodar's Prikubansky district. Tragically, two children lost their lives and nine others—including two adults and seven children—were hospitalized after debris struck a private children's center nearby.

"The fire broke out in the warehouse premises, and emergency teams are actively extinguishing it," confirmed the head of Krasnodar, Evgeny Naumov.

The governor of Krasnodar Krai, Veniamin Kondratyev, added that drone debris also fell on residential areas and buildings under construction, highlighting the widespread collateral impact of the attack.

Broader Security Concerns and Industry Implications

Further compounding the crisis, OSINT analysis by ASTRA has revealed that a large Ozon warehouse in Nevinnomyssk, Stavropol Krai, also came under drone attack and caught fire. This warehouse spans an expansive 93,514 square meters and serves as a critical hub for storing, sorting, and dispatching both food and non-food products for Ozon's customers. Residents in the Stavropol region reported hearing explosions, while Governor Vladimir Vladimirov confirmed that air defense systems are actively intercepting drone incursions targeting the industrial zone of Nevinnomyssk.

These simultaneous attacks on vital logistics infrastructure pose a substantial threat to Ozon's operational continuity and supply chain resilience. The disruption not only affects the company’s immediate ability to process and deliver orders but also raises concerns about the security of supply chain assets amid emerging drone threats. Ozon faces the strategic challenge of balancing rapid recovery and ensuring enhanced protection measures across its logistics network.

In a competitive e-commerce landscape where timely delivery and reliability are crucial, the implications of such targeted attacks extend beyond operational setbacks. They may influence customer trust, vendor relationships, and long-term strategic planning regarding facility security and risk mitigation.

Ozon’s management is now tasked with reassessing its risk exposure and accelerating contingency measures, including the deployment of alternative logistics nodes and investment in counter-unmanned aerial systems to protect critical assets.
