The Social Democratic Party (SPD) faction in the Bavarian Landtag awarded Yulia Navalnaya the European Prize for her resolute opposition to the authoritarian Russian government and her steadfast defense of human rights.
Presented at a ceremony in Munich on June 29, 2024, the award recognizes Navalnaya’s unwavering commitment to democratic values and human rights despite severe personal losses, notably the violent death of her husband, opposition leader Alexei Navalny, earlier this year.

Holger Grießhammer, leader of the SPD faction in Bavaria, praised Navalnaya’s efforts, stating, “Her activities serve as an example for all who aspire to live freely and democratically in Europe with full respect for human rights.” The award emphasizes the significance of Navalnaya’s role in symbolizing resistance against authoritarian governance in Russia, demonstrating resilience in the face of repression.

Since 2018, the SPD faction in Bavaria has awarded the European Prize to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to promoting European ideals and the values of the European Union.
